Chelsea escape Uefa punishment over ‘antisemitic’ chants

• Lack of evidence believed to be behind decision to close case
• Chelsea had accused own fans of shaming the club at Vidi

Chelsea will not face punishment for what the club themselves described as antisemitic chanting by their fans at a Europa League game in Hungary after Uefa closed the disciplinary proceedings.

There was no explanation from European football’s governing body, which had charged Chelsea with racist behaviour by supporters at December’s match against Vidi, but it is believed it reached the decision because it could not gather enough evidence.
